Is yours a Whopper? Enter the Giant Pumpkin Contest
05 October 2009
Can you grow the heaviest pumpkin? That’s the question being posed to all children aged 15 and under who live in the Borough of Carrickfergus.
The annual Giant Pumpkin Competition is being judged this month and those interested in entering must complete their applications by 20th October. To obtain an application form or for further information telephone 028 9335 8039 or visit the Carrickfergus in Bloom website at www.carrickfergusinbloom.org
"The annual Giant Pumpkin Competition is a fantastic opportunity for children of the Borough to grow a pumpkin from seed and to learn more about gardening techniques and hopefully encourage them to eat their giant creations. In March we distributed 2000 packets of pumpkin seeds to children throughout the Borough and we look forward to receiving many applications.”
"The Giant Pumpkin Competition is part of the Carrickfergus in Bloom Community Competitions which have a total prize fund of over £1200. Everybody who lives within the Borough of Carrickfergus is invited to take part in Carrickfergus in Bloom as there is something for everyone. By entering you not only brighten up your own house but you also aid our Borough's entry to the Translink Ulster in Bloom competitions." ended Alderman Beattie
The winners and runner-up will be invited to a prize-giving ceremony at the Town Hall in October to receive their certificates and prizes.
