Carrickfergus in Bloom Painting Competition

The annual competition has been arranged to encourage the Borough's younger citizens to actively assist in Carrickfergus's entry to the Translink 'Ulster in Bloom' Competition. Entrants are invited to submit a picture on the theme Carrickfergus in Bloom. There are two age categories: 10 and under and 15 and under. The picture's size should be no more than 420mm x 300mm. The Carrickfergus in Bloom Painting and Poetry Competition closing date is the 30th September. For more information about how to enter please visit www.carrickfergusinbloom.org/painting.htm. Carrickfergus in Bloom Poetry Competition

This annual competition has been arranged to encourage the Borough's younger citizens to actively assist in Carrickfergus's entry to the Translink 'Ulster in Bloom' Competition. Entrants aged 15 and under are invited to submit a poem on the theme Carrickfergus in Bloom, in less than 250 words. Virtual Flower Show

Voting ends on 20th September 2011 for the Carrickfergus in Bloom Virtual Flower Show. The Virtual Flower Show is a web based competition that encourages people to submit to the Virtual Flower Show website (www.virtualflowershow.org) a favourite photograph taken during the last year. Voting is easy just log on to www.virtualflowershow.org and pick your favourite photograph. The photo in each category that receives the most votes wins. The winners and runner-up will be invited to a prize-giving ceremony at the Town Hall in October to receive their certificates and prizes. Don't delay, vote today!

Beach Watch

The Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch Big Weekend is happening from 16-19th September and there are over 30 beach cleans to get involved with all over Northern Ireland. The Whitehead Beach Clean takes place on Sunday 18th September at 2pm starting at Harbour Car Park, Whitehead. Other events include Friday 16th September at 9am in Ballylumford Harbour & on Saturday 17th September at 3pm in Loughshore Park, Jordanstown. All equipment will be provided. No need to register beforehand - just turn up!

Biodiversity Photography Competition

There is also still time to enter the NIEA Biodiversity Photography Competition - closing date 30th September. You can enter up to 3 pictures, and successful images will be used to produce our 2012 Biodiversity Northern Ireland calendar. For more information about how to enter please visit
