Legg Park Closes After Vandalism in Play Park
08 July 2011
Mayor of Carrickfergus, Alderman Jim McClurg has condemned the spate of vandalism that has been carried out at Legg Park Play Area on the Belfast Road. This is the seventh occasion this year that has resulted in closure of one of Carrickfergus’s most popular play parks.
Alderman McClurg said "We are sickened by these vandal attacks that have resulted in Legg Park’s closure until the repairs were carried out. This has meant children could not enjoy the play park facilities. Those who are senselessly destroying the play equipment are robbing local families of the opportunity to enjoy these facilities."
"The thousands of pounds spent replacing vandalised equipment in the Borough’s play parks could be better spent replacing older play equipment. The recent damage included safety surface being ripped up (see enclosed photograph) and exposing the concrete base and swing seats damaged by irresponsible dog owners as teeth marks left by dog have been found on the damaged equipment."
We urge anyone who has information about this latest attack to contact the PSNI.
