I was born (1927) in Carrickfergus and lived at 59 Irish Quarter South until 1954 when I imagrated to Canada. I was wondering if any of my old friends are still around and would certainly like to hear from any of them or their children etc., Billy Moore, Jack McGregor, Jack Thacker, Willie Lyle, Raymond Montgomery,Jim McGookin, or anyone else who would like to contact me.
My last visit to Carrick was in June 1990 and my wife and I watched the 300th anniversery of the landing of King William 3rd. I took some pictures of the parade and of course Carrick Castle, one can never forget the castle and also St.Nicholas Church, both of which hold many fond memories for me. I also had the pleasure of playing a round of golf at the Carrick course where I won the Dobbs Cup in 1954 just prior to my departure for Canada.
During my visit in 1990 I saw many changes in Carrick, but there is one thing I hope will never change and that is the people, I have traveled almost around the world and can say without hesitation that I have found the Carrick people the most friendly and most helpful people I have had the pleasure of associating with.
Best wishes to you all,
Andrew & Gisela Lindsay.Posted by Andrew Lindsay on 13 August 2010

Visited your wonderful town October of 2009. I found the locals to be very friendly towards us, (we are Americans). The city was very clean, and the castle was nothing short of spectacular. The marina is world class! The location of the Tesco store was very well planned...close to town centre. The Premiere Inn was the best chain hotel I have ever stayed at. While at the central bar, we were even offered to come meet the mayor! Will return in the future for a quiet and quaint get-away from the states.

My family and I visited Carrickfergus this year in May. We were taken immediately by the friendliness of the locals and made to feel very much at home. We were thrilled by the castle and the 'Old Town Tour', but the entire area has touched this family, and I'm sure we will be back. Thank you Carrickfergus, and Merry Christmas from the Fowler family of Alberta Canada!

Just a quick note to say we very much enjoyed the tour of the walls yesterday at 14h30. Our guide was very informative. We live in Jordanstown and had no idea the walls even existed let alone the rich history of them. My children also very much enjoyed the jesters and interactive activities in the hall.

I live in NSW Australia and last week I had reason, for family history purposes, to contact the borough council for help in contacting the local family history society in Carrickfergus.
In case anyone can help me I am trying to find my great great grandparents, John and Frances Kelly, who lived in Carrickfergus around 1851. They had 4 sons, George (1844-), Robert (1847-), John (1849-1894) my great grandfather who later moved to Scotland and married Elizabeth Mitchell and they eventually moved to Australia in 1878, and James (1851-).
During the 1851 census Frances was staying at her mother's house in Killyglen, along with her sons and her 2 younger sisters.
If anyone has any of these people in their family tree could they contact me as I would love to know what happened to the various siblings and their aunts.

I trace my ancestry back to Hugh Willson a Linen Merchant in Carrickfergus, Antrim County Ireland circa 1750. His grandson Hugh L. came to America in 1775 and Canada in 1800.
His greatgranddaughter married my greatgrandfather John Fitzpatrick
I have friends visiting the area this week and have passed the info to them
Hopefully they will have an opportunity to search out current WillsonsPosted by John William Fitzpatrick (brelangroupinc@sympatico.ca) on 08 June 2009
