On the wider political front Mark was elected to the Ruling Officer Team of the Ulster Unionist Party in 2007 before becoming the Party Treasurer in 2008. He was appointed as the UUP Trade and Tourism Spokesperson by Sir Reg Empey in 2007 and was also one of 4 UUP appointees to the newly formed Conservative and Ulster Unionist Joint Committee in 2008.

Mark is a keen sports fan in general and is football fanatic who travels to all Northern Ireland matches home and away and has been a Season Ticket Holder at Leeds United for over 20 years.

He has a teenage daughter.

A summary of the roles that Mark has undertaken in his time on Council are detailed below: ~

  • Elected to Carrickfergus Council for Knockagh DEA in 2005
  • Held post of Vice Chair of Chief Executives Office and Development Services in 2005 and 2006 respectively
  • Elected Deputy Mayor in 2008
  • Elected Chairman of Carrickfergus District Policing Partnership in December 2008
  • Appointed as a Director of Carrickfergus Development Company in 2008 which has a remit is to regenerate Carrickfergus Town Centre
  • Appointed as a Director of Carrickfergus Enterprise Limited in 2005
